Abstract James Gibbons was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 23, 1834 to Irish-born parents. In 1886, he was appointed Cardinal-Priest of Santa Maria in Trastevere, becoming the second American to earn the rank in the Catholic Church. Abstract

The Natural history scrapbook, 1890s, contains clippings of newspaper articles and pictures about animals, plants, and natural history wonders. The title page, page numbers and index are hand-drawn with intricate detail. It is believed the natural history scrapbook belonged to a College of Notre Dame of Maryland student or faculty member.
